Unlike the premium Lumia 950 and Lumia 950 XL, the Lumia 650 is a low-end phone that still follows the design language on previous flagship devices with the difference of the anodized aluminum borders wrap. The software giant will target the new handset to businesses, as the company describes on its advertising video as “the smart choice for your business” with built-in apps such as OneDrive and Office Mobile. The Lumia 650 features a 5-inch, 720p OLED display, powered by a Qualcomm quad-core Snapdragon 212 processor, and 16GB of internal storage expandable to 200GB using a microSD card, 1GB of memory, and 8-megapixel and 5-megapixel cameras. The phone runs Windows 10 Mobile out-of-the-box, but due to its hardware constraints, the Lumia 650 doesn’t include support Continuum, which means that you cannot transform your phone into a PC like experience by connecting an external monitor, keyboard and mouse. Furthermore, the new handset uses a micro-USB port for charging, when most new mobile devices today are opting for the more versatile and speedy USB Type-C for charging and data transfer.
There is also the choice for a single-SIM or dual-SIM configuration. The Lumia 650 is launching in select markets in Europe on February 18th with a price tag of $199. While the company hasn’t officially confirmed that the Lumia 650 is the “last Lumia”, but it’s known that Microsoft is already working on the “Surface Phone”, which may arrive later this year. However, there is still no official information that Microsoft will use the “Surface” brand on future flagship phones.
